FIND THE RIGHT PATH TO SUCCESS
Are you thinking about starting your own business? No doubt you have many questions and can find some of your answers on our website. Make sure you browse through the Free Reference Library. It is our way of contributing to the community of small business owners.
Here is a list of questions we have found to be very important to ask yourself before you start your own business:
1. Is your idea a good one?
2. Do you have enough money to get started?
3. What are some expenses that you may incur that you don’t know about?
4. Is a business plan really necessary and what exactly is a business plan anyway?
5. Do you need a business license? What other licenses and permits do you need?
6. Is it better to operate the business as a sole proprietor, corporation, LLC or partnership?
7. Where do you find suppliers?
8. What is the best way to market your products or services?
9. How do you determine the prices you should be charging?
10. What do you need to know about hiring employees?
Wouldn’t it be great to have truthful answers to these and other questions you have? The problem is that so many people are trying to sell you the idea that they have your answer to small business success. All you have to do is fork over your money. If only it was that easy.
For example, type in the word “marketing” in Google or any other search engine and you find several million ideas on how you can market your business. The vast majority make it sound very doable and it only cost a couple of hundred dollars to give it a try. What the heck! That’s not much money.
However, it costs you much more than a few bucks. You also lose time. More importantly, you start out thinking making it in business is easy. You avoid the truth that it takes hard work combined with a passion for learning.
Compare what you find on the Internet to the advice given in our book, “Getting in Business to Stay." We advise you to use your personal efforts and talk directly with people you already know. We teach you what to say and how to say it. You need to learn that getting prospects to buy your products or services is a step-by-step process.
Save your money when starting your business. We have seen thousands of dollars wasted by new business owners on fancy brochures and costly advertising. Follow the advice given in our book to first go out and discover how to move prospects along the sales process.
Begin by spending time and not much money marketing your products or services. Think about investing money on marketing when you begin to run short of time. This is how most successful business owners have started their business.
Don’t fall for promises of an easy answer. You are kidding yourself. Making it in your own business is not easy. If it were, everyone would do it. Make a small investment of money to purchase our book. It is a safe place to read about what it really takes to build a rewarding and satisfying business.

Whether or not you are making money right now, the change you should make as soon as practical is to use the Breakeven Point Formula to manage your business. We will explain this formula to you.
Many small business owners are frustrated because they are either not making enough money to reward their efforts or are having a difficult time growing their business and making money off the efforts of employees. The answers are often found in a better understanding of the Gross Profit Percentage earned by the business. This number is a key component of the Breakeven Point Formula.
You can learn more about using both numbers to manage your business by reading “A Sustainable Business Model,” part four of “Getting in Business to Stay.” You will also benefit from reading the book since doing so will cause you to think about the basics of running a business. Just like playing golf, professionals reexamine their fundamentals if their present swing is breaking down.
